What is Hunger Action Month?
Hunger Action Month is a powerful reminder that millions of families struggle with food insecurity every single day. It’s more than awareness—it’s a call to reflect on how hunger affects our neighbours, and most importantly, to take action together.
The official color of hunger awareness is orange. When you see people wearing orange, lighting buildings orange, or sharing orange-themed campaigns, it’s a bold visual reminder: hunger is closer to home than we think.
Hunger in Toronto: A Growing Challenge
Here in Toronto, the need is urgent. 1 in 4 families struggles to put food on the table. Too often, families face impossible choices—whether to pay rent, keep the lights on, or buy groceries.
That’s where organizations like Hand Up Toronto step in. Through our Family Support Program, we provide essential groceries and connect families with resources, so fewer children go to bed hungry.
Connecting Hunger Action Month with the Toronto Waterfront Marathon
This year, Hunger Action Month takes on new energy through the Toronto Waterfront Marathon. When you lace up your shoes and hit the pavement, you’re not just running for a medal—you’re running for families who need food and hope.
How You Can Make a Difference
This September, here’s how you can join the movement:
👟 Run for a cause. Sign up for the Toronto Marathon using our referral link. For every
registration, $5 goes directly to Hand Up Toronto to support families facing food insecurity.
🧡 Wear orange. A simple yet powerful way to stand in solidarity and raise awareness.
📢 Share the story. Talk to friends, post on social media, and encourage others to act.
