Welcoming Our New Board Members to Hand Up Toronto

Updated: 17 hours ago

Fresh perspectives, distinct expertise, and a shared passion for community impact drive our mission forward. We are thrilled to announce the appointment of three new members to our Board of Directors. Maddie, Paul, and Sam join us at a pivotal time, and the unique skills, experience, and energy they bring will be instrumental in helping us continue to move HUT forward.

Get to know the newest additions to our team:

Madeline Kingston

Madeline is an experienced leader in volunteer engagement, community development, and corporate partnerships. She currently serves as Senior Manager, Volunteer Engagement at March of Dimes Canada, where she leads national strategy across volunteer recruitment, onboarding, retention, and program evaluation.

She has a strong track record of building and scaling volunteer and corporate engagement programs, increasing funding opportunities, and strengthening partnerships through her work with organizations including Volunteer Canada and the Toronto Humane Society. Madeline combines strategic thinking with a collaborative, adaptable approach and brings additional perspective through her experience as a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Her passion for grassroots, volunteer-led and volunteer-supported organizations strongly aligns with our mission and values. She is particularly well-suited to a working board, bringing both governance insight and a willingness to actively contribute, especially in the areas of volunteer strategy and partnership development.

Paul Webber

Paul is a seasoned consultant and governance leader with extensive experience in strategy, risk management, and advisory roles. He brings strong committee experience, including roles with Achēv, FSRA, and the Community Foundation of Mississauga, alongside a career leading teams and advising on governance, operations, and stakeholder engagement.

Paul has a clear understanding of our mission and the growing challenges of food insecurity in the GTA, informed by his current volunteer work with the Mississauga Food Bank. He is motivated to contribute meaningfully and brings a practical, solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to operate as a well-rounded generalist across multiple functional areas.

He is particularly aligned with our grassroots, working board model, seeking an active, non-performative role where he can contribute both strategically and operationally. Paul is well-positioned to support governance evolution, clarify roles and responsibilities, and help strike the right balance between oversight and hands-on execution while strengthening our volunteer-driven approach.

Sam Galanis

Sam is a senior marketing, media, and partnerships leader with extensive experience driving growth, brand strategy, and revenue across major organizations including Pinterest, Rogers Sports & Media, and Meta. He has led large teams, managed significant budgets, and built strategic partnerships across multiple industries, consistently delivering strong business outcomes through cross-functional collaboration and resource optimization.

Sam is motivated by the direct, tangible impact of addressing food insecurity and is drawn to the organization’s smaller, scrappy, and grassroots approach. He brings a strong background in marketing and corporate partnerships, along with experience making strategic decisions in environments with fixed resources—an asset in navigating constraints and maximizing impact.

He is intrigued by and well-aligned with the working board model, and is open to contributing both strategically and operationally. Sam would bring valuable perspective in partnerships, growth, and brand development, alongside a practical mindset suited to a hands-on, impact-driven organization.

Please join us in welcoming Maddie, Paul, and Sam to HUT and wishing them the best in their new roles!
